There is a small township located at the end of the turnout from the
İzmir-
Çeşme highway with colourful streets. There are two symbols of the township known as
Alaçatı. One of these is the windmills and the other is the wind surfs you can see anytime in the deep blue see.
Alaçatı is open to the wind. And this in turn lead to the improvement of surfing activities and made the small township one of the rare places in the world where this sport can be performed.
Tourism also developed in line with the growing of this sport and several surfing schools and facilities have been launched in the neighbourhood. In addition to hotels and boarding houses suitable camping areas for campers and caravan owners are available too. The streets in the center of
Alaçatı are narrow and layed with stones. The inhabitants are debonair and hospitable. In the first years of the Republican period tobacco and grapes for wine making were grown here. Today vegetables such as anise, artichoke, onion and olives are grown in
Alaçatı.
