The old castle is situated at the heights of the remainder of
Alanya. It is approximately 250 meters above the sea level and here the landscape is breathtaking. Although the exact date of construction of the castle is not known, traces of
Roman,
Byzantine and
Seljuk civilizations can be seen here. Yet the size and the grandeur of the castle can be attributed to
Sultan Alaaddin Keykubat. The castle is surrounded by a castle wall of 6,5 km length and has 140 watch towers. Thanks to these towers any enemies attacking or had the purpose of attacking the castle were immediately recognized. While climbing the castle walls or passing through the paths inside one may face little cafes and restaurants spread over homogeniously. The small church/mosque next to
Sultan Palace can be visited. In one of the sections of the castle there stand the prisons and dungeons where slaves and soldiers were kept.
