Ankara Citadel is situated in the
Ulus Bentderesi District of Ankara.
Ankara Citadel is one of the symbols of the capitol city of
Turkey. Although the exact date of its construction is not known there is widespread belief that the
Citadel was built by
Romans.
The Citadel has two sections. The outer castle has twenty towers and surrounds old
Ankara . In the inner castle there is one interior and one exterior gate . The height of the walls of the inner castle which was built with collected stones varies between 14-16 m. Those who visit the
Citadel do not only visit the
Citadel itself but also the many authentic structures standing there. The old
Ankara houses are lined up alongside of the road leading to the
Citadel. Some of them have been restored and serve as
cafe or
restaurant. Recently fish restaurants have been opened nearby.
The Anatolian Civilizations museum where opuses from many civilizations lived in
Anatolia are displayed is also located within the complex of the
Citadel.
