The history of
Bartın, the ancient name of which was
PARTHENIA dates back to 14th century BC. The city which still has traces from the
Lydians,
Kimmers,
Persians,
Romans,
Byzantine,
Anatolian Seljuks and
Ottomans has become a province in the year 1991.
Bartın is a province located in
Western Black Sea Region and is surrounded by mountains.
Bartın which has magnificient natural beauties such as the
Uluyayla,
Zoni and
Ardi plateaus has become an important
mount and
plateau resort. On the rather long shore of
Bartın alongside the
Black Sea there are important beaches such as
İnkum,
Amasra,
Çakraz,
Kızılkum,
Mogada,
Güzelcehisar and
Bozköy.
Thus Bartın has lately become a favoured alternate sea tourism resort.
Bartın at the same time is rapidly becoming a center for culture tourism, and a sports tourism center providing opportunities for mountain climbing and surfing. In
Bartın mosques from the
Ottoman period, an inn and houses built under the influence of
İstanbul are found.
Amasra which is one of the important townships of
Bartın has a history dating back to the 12th century BC. Although the coal mines found there contribute a lot to the county’s economy the people of
Amasra also deal with agriculture , livestock and fishery.
The Kaledibi market where souvenirs are sold is the most famous shopping district of
Amasra. There are many hotels , guesthouses, restaurants and cafe’s in
Amasra as well. The castle of
Amasra which remained from the late
Roman period, the church built by the
Geneoses and the
archeological museum are places worth to see in this small town.
