Erzurum which is the
biggest city of the Eastern Anatolian Region is established on the side of
Palandöken mountain.
Palandöken Mountain rising to 3185 meters stretches in the south of this city both eastwards and westwards.
The Palandöken Mountain offers many sporting opportunities with skiing ranking first. Thanks to the recent investments in tourism, the mountain which is covered with snow 150 days of the year has become one of the most important skiing centers of
Turkey and of the world. It has been understood that the natural environment of
Palandöken and its neighbourhood is ideal for winter sports and accordingly the most extensive project for a
Winter Sports Center has been prepared. Once the project is implemented winter
Olimpiades are expected to be organized here. During the period between December and May
Palandöken is visited by domestic and foreign tourist crowds. The length and suitability of the ski runs in addition to the availibility of three, four and five star hotels render
Palandöken rather attractive for ski fans. The total length of the ski runs is 28 km and the length of highest run is 12 km. You can travel there either by road or by air taking the regular daily flights to
Erzurum from both
Ankara and
istanbul. At
Palandöken which is only 5 km from
Erzurum and 10 minutes away from the airport sport activities such as trekking, camping and mountaineering are performed rather frequently as well.
