The Sadberk Hanım Museum situated at the entrance of
Sarıyer has been launched at old
Azaryan Yalı in the memory of
Sadberk Hanım, the wife of
Vehbi Koç and was opened in the year 1981. In the
archaeological works section which is the first building of the two buildings there are works from the prehistoric period dating back to 6000 BC upto late
Byzantine period.
Ceramics and maces, cuneiform tablets from ancient
Bronze Age,
Assyrian,
Hittite,
Phrygian and
Urartu opuses,
pots and
pans, sculptures from
Hellenistic,
Roman and
Byzantine ages, etc. In the second part of the museum on the other hand there is the
Islamic and
Ottoman opuses section. In this section samples of
Islamic metal art,
oil lamps,
mortars,
plates,
jugs,
tombacs,
porcelaine,
Iznik,
Kütahya,
Çanakkale tiles,
european porcelain and
turkish handworks are displayed. The yalı adjacent to the main building was purchased and restored with the aim to include the
Hüseyin Kocabaş collection to the museum. This building is known as “
Sevgi Gönül Building” since 1988 . It houses archaeological works from
Hatti,
Hittite,
Roman,
Phrygian Byzantine,
Hellenistic and
Seljuk periods. The museum can be visited everyday from 09:00 to 17:00 between October and March and from 10:30 to 18:00 between April and October except Wednesdays.
